Psychology Internship Information

Internships are structured educational work experiences designed to enrich and complement your academic program. An internship enables you to discover the links between your academic study of liberal arts and application of classroom knowledge to a practical work situation. Many Psychology students complete Internships and find valuable experiences that pertian to their interests in psychology. There are a wide variety of different internships that a student can embark on. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to gain insight into career options, to build a resume, and to get experienceworking in a professional environment. Psychology Majors' Exciting Summer Experiences: 2011

St. Cloud Orthopedics Sartell, MN PT Intern Internship and physical therapy shadowing experience. Worked with athletes from varying athletic backgrounds. Planned workouts, demonstrated weightliftingd techniques, oversaw the use of the facilities.
Schwan's USA Soccer Cup Blaine, MN Dorm Advisor Served as the contact for international teams who were housed in the U of MN dorms during the tournament. Lived in the dorm, served as a spanish translator for some of the teams.
N/A Villarrica, Paraguay Secretary in a University Counseling Clinic and Student Interned with a psychologist. Worked as a secretary in a university counseling clinic. Attended collegiate classes (human developmental and general psychology)
Summer Neuroscience Institute University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Researcher

Well-long conference, attended seminars on current neuroscience research being done at U of IL and other universities. Dissecting sheep brains, looking at human brains

Demandforce San Francisco, CA Software Start-Up Intern Paid marketing internship at Demandforce, a software start-up in San Francisco, for nine weeks. Marketing & teamwork skills.
Deer River Hospital Deer River, MN Rotational Program through different departments Paid internship at Deer River Hospital in Deer River, MN. Rotations to learn more about aspects of rural health care.
Fernbrook Family Center Owatonna, MN Child Leader Unpaid internship for 2 months. Helped small groups of kids aged 6-11 to develop/improve their social skills.
University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, PA Researcher Researched at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health for 6 weeks in Biostatistics.
Christ Church Lutheran Minneapolis, MN Intern summer Vocational Internship Program Interned at Christ Church Lutheran for 10 weeks, as part of the St. Olaf Summer Vocational Internship Program.

Bridge for Youth Minneapolis, MN Intern Interned at Bridge for Youth, a shelter for youth in crisis.
HOPE Center Minnesota Intern Interned at HOPE Center (Center for Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence advocacy and support) for 10 weeks.
Target Cottage Grove, MN Intern Learned how to run a Target Store. Lots of responsibility with the opportunity to improve the store. Potential for job offer at end of the 10-week internship.
