Shawntel Carter

My name is Shawntel Regina Carter. I grew up in Richfield, MN, a suburb of Minneapolis. I graduated from Richfield High School in 2000, and came to St. Olaf College to continue my studies. My education at St. Olaf has taken many turns. I started my first year and a half as biology major, when I began noticing the definite connections between biology and psychology. I am now planning integrative studies major in the field of neuroscience and will probably complete a psychology major as well. In my free time I enjoy cheerleading, exchanging stories and fun times with my friends, and anything that makes my mind say "fun!" After graduation, I hope to attend graduate school at the University of Minnesota for my PhD.

Shawntel graduated in 2004 with a B.A. in Biology and Psychology.

Research Interests

I had the delightful opportunity to be apart of Professor Thorsheim's research team in the summer of 2002. During this time, we worked on an NSF grant, a Nygaard feasibility study, and did a little of our own learning and research. One of our goals was to see how feasible it would be to implement a type of neuroscience called digital psychophysiology into the high schools of disadvantaged youth. During this time, we had the opportunity to design psychophysiology labs, interact with learning highschoolers, and work with digital psychophysiology equipment on our own.

I hope to use my knowledge of psychophysiology and biology and research the area of the mind body connection. I also have an avid interest in studying diseases, and hope to someday study anatomical pathology and how the mind and bodily responses affects disease.
