Barbara Reed,
Professor of Religion

Barbara Reed received her Ph.D. from the School of Religion at the University of Iowa in 1982 and as part of her graduate study spent a year at National Taiwan Normal University (Taipei) studying the Chinese classics. Barbara teaches in the area of the history of religions, focusing on the religions of East Asia. Her interests have taken her back to East Asia several times, including three tours with St. Olaf students.

Barbara's publications include Culture and Customs of Taiwan, coauthored with Gary Davison (Greenwood Press, 1998) and the article on Buddhist ethics in The Encyclopedia of Buddhism, edited by Robert E. Buswell (Macmillan, 2003). She regularly teaches courses on Buddhism, the religions of China and Japan, and Asian cultures.
