Valerie Thomas, MSW, LICSW
Instructor of Social Work, Field Coordinator

Valerie received her B.A. is Psychology at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and a Master's Degree in Social Work from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. She has professional experience in a variety of settings, including domestic violence, homelessness, clinical work with children and families, and medical social work.

Valerie is thrilled to be teaching social work at St. Olaf college for the 2007-2008 year, filling in for a sabbatical leave. She will be teaching Culturally Competent Practice, Inclusive Practice with Individuals and Families, Inclusive Practice with Groups, Organizations, and Communities, Evaluation of Social Work Practice and Programs, and acting as Field Coordinator for the Field Work Practicum.

On a Personal Note:

Valerie spent the first eighteen years of her life in Northfield as the child of a St. Olaf employee and a Carleton faculty member. After many years living on both the east and west coasts, she is very happy returning to raise her two adorable children in Northfield.
