Lambda Alpha
National Collegiate Honors Society for Anthropology
Lambda Alpha was originally founded at Wichita State University. The Gamma Chapter in Minnesota was charted in the spring of 2007 at St. Olaf College.
The society’s name is composed of the initial letters of the Greek words logos anthropou, meaning “The study of man”. The purpose of the society is to encourage and stimulate scholarship and research in Anthropology by recognizing and honoring superior achievement in the discipline among students, faculty and other persons engaged in the study of Anthropology.
Membership in Lambda Alpha is open to St. Olaf students who:
- have taken a minimum of three classes in Anthropology (one of these classes may be a Sociology course)
- have a GPA of 2.5 overall
- have a GPA of 3.0 in Sociology/Anthropology courses
Membership in Lambda Alpha is also open to alumni of St. Olaf within five years of graduation, provided they also meet the above criteria.
