Gretel Van Wieren
Class of 1993

Since St. Olaf, I worked in public policy advocacy for an anti-hunger anti-poverty organization, did community development work in Eastern Africa, and served as a solo pastor of two rural congregations (Reformed Church in America) in upstate New York. My service work has been in the global ecumenical movement against economic globalization and ecological destruction. Currently, I am a Ph.D. candidate (Yale University) in Religious Studies (Religious Ethics; specific interest, environmental and economic ethics). Additional academic background since St. Olaf includes: M.P.S., International Development, Cornell University, '98; M.Div., Yale Divinity School, '01.

As an aside, my sociology degree has served as wonderful background for my interests in social, political and economic change; additionally, I have felt very well trained, especially related to being able to analyze current global climate related to social inequities.
