Of Note & In the News!

Congratulations to senior Ben Olsen! Ben submitted his scenic design work for Three Sisters to the 'Cover the Walls' exhibition held at the at the USITT Fall Regional Conference in early September hosted by the U of M Theater department in Duluth, MN. This exhibition is an open invitation for student designers to exhibit their work and share with fellow artists their ideas and approaches to design. Submissions were entered into a juried competition. Ben was one of three winners to receive a scholarship award for free registration to the USITT National Conference held in Milwaukee, WI in March 2013.

Ben created the scenic design for the Spring 2012 Kelsey Theater production of Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters, directed by professor Jeanne Willcoxon. For the ‘Cover the Walls’ exhibit Ben displayed three panels - one showing his research, one for sketches/drawings/renderings and a third with production photos.  You can see this winning design currently housed in the lower level of the Theater Building in a display case.

The USITT (United States Institute for Theater Technology) is a non-profit membership organization which aims to advance the skills and knowledge of theater, entertainment and performing arts professionals involved in the areas of design, production and technology, and to generally promote their interests.
