Academics in the Theatre Department

Theatre majors at St. Olaf do a variety of things with their degree after graduation and it isn't always work in the theatre. Certainly some theater majors have left St. Olaf to engage in very successful careers in performing, design, arts management, and technology. But others have used the training and experience they gained as a theatre major to begin successful careers in business, management, marketing, publicity, architecture, design, computer, media technology and more! A major in theatre asks the students to consider a wide variety of information and personal development- history, technology, written & oral communication, presentation, visual sensitivity, collaboration, leadership, organizational management, and planning are just a few of these.

The faculty and staff in the department have created a major that each student can use for their individual personal and career goals. We are interested in talking to you about your goals to focus your study in the department in the best way possible.

The requirements for the major are designed to help ensure that your study in theatre arts is a balanced and well-rounded one. Along with a strong liberal arts education and contact with international study at St. Olaf, the theatre major can prepare students for a wide variety of successful career options.
