Living in Our Toxic World

Toxic substances resulting from technological developments have had an enormous impact on the global environment, especially during the last century. Understanding this impact and working to minimize it in the future is critical to being better stewards of the Earth in order to leave the world better for the next generation. During this year’s Honors Day Science Symposium, speakers from three distinct perspectives will reflect on what it means to live and thrive in a toxic world. Topics include the effect of endocrine disruption on the development of living organisms, the challenge of dealing with nuclear waste, and the role of green chemistry in the design of inherently more benign materials.
