The Chairs
Peter Carlson Schattauer is from Dubuque, Iowa. He is majoring in Religion and Political Science with a concentration in Middle East Studies. While at St. Olaf, Peter has sung in the St. Olaf Cantorei for three years as well as the Viking Chorus his first year. He has served as the Co-Vice-President of Worship in the Student Congregation and a student worker in the Admissions office. Last fall, Peter studied abroad in Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, and Greece as part of St. Olaf College’s Term in the Middle East and studied in South Africa during Interim 2006. Last summer, Peter worked at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in St. Paul and Daily Work, a non-profit attached to the church, as part of the St. Olaf Lilly Grant for Lives of Worth and Service. In order to cure wanderlust, Peter is reading books set in countries to which he has traveled. Next year, Peter plans to pursue a year of service through a volunteer organization.
Maggie Matson is from Casper, Wyoming. She majors in American Studies and Studio Art. During her time at St. Olaf, Maggie has participated in Student Alumni Association, Black & Gold Corps, and P.I.C.A.S.S.O., an art awareness organization sponsored through the honor house, ARTHouse. She has had the fortune of working in the Alumni & Parent Relations office during Celebration Weekend and Homecoming. Last Interim, Maggie spent the month in Manhattan where she studied contemporary art. This January she will travel to Florence, Italy, to study Italian art with professor emeritus Mac Gimse and his wife Jackie. Maggie enjoys reading about contemporary American culture and is currently studying the effects of MTV on youth culture. After graduation Maggie plans to travel the world and eventually combine the skills she has acquired through her majors to work in a museum or gallery, either in the Twin Cities area or on one of the coasts.
