Greetings,

What a marvelous group of students have chosen to study in Asis this
fall.  Yesterday we experienced the horrors of the details of the atomic
bomb and then the serenity of the `red gate in the sea`.  Today we will
be enthralled by some of the shrines and temples of Kyoto; day after
tomorrow we will be struck by the realities of burgoning China and begin
to come to grips with what all of that might mean to the future of our
world.

In Shimane we had a delightful reception and hand-on experiences along
with a beginning understanding of the cooperative efforts they are
undertaking in agricultural areas.

As we begin to know each of our traveling companions better, and they
us, I think we will grow closer and even more at ease with exploring the
places and people we are meeting.  Our group closeness has certainly
been eased with the hospitality and generosity of our special hostess in
Tokyo and the farmers and housewives of Shimane.

So, gratitude prevails for all of them and for this opportunity.  Peace
and love,           Bob
