To Family and Friends,
After three weeks of living with our host families in the ancient Medina of Fez, we said goodbye and embarked on our two week excursion through Morocco. The first day was an intense drive to Erfoud, a city close to The Algerian border, and on the edge of the Western Sahara. With about a 15 minute stop to pack our night bag and bathroom break, the fifteen of us hopped in three land rovers and sped off into the desert. That night, we slept in a Berber camp entertained at dinner with their song, dance, traditional Moroccan food (that we were all very accustomed to at this point), and a night in a Berber tent. In the morning, we were awakened by the smell and sound of camels. Not the most pleasant way to wake up, but definitely unique.  After climbing on our camels, we rode off into the desert, with the final destination as breakfast. Along the way, we witnessed the sunrise on the Sahara.
The next couple of days were spent on a stop, here and there, tours and picnics as we headed in the general direction of Marrakech. On the last day, we were concluding our drive through the Atlas Mountains as we journeyed down one of the windiest roads in existence. While the view was spectacular, about half the group missed most of it because we were lying down, due to carsickness.
When we reached Marrakech, we stayed for 6 days and helped out in a girls
boarding school. We spent our time singing and dancing. We would occasionally help them with our homework, but we spent most of the time playing games and singing about jellyfish, sharks, chickens, doing the hokey pokey, and head shoulders knees and toes. The girls even reciprocated and sang and danced their traditional songs for us one of the nights. On Halloween, our last night with the girls, we taught them (as best as possible) about our holiday and then sent them trick-or-treating to all the different pairs we established.
The last two days in Morocco were in Rabat, the capital, and Casablanca. Before hopping on the plane, we had lunch at Rick's Café in Casablanca. While we thought we were home-free heading for Egypt, we were mistaken. A mishap at the airport ended up with the group splitting and only half getting on the plane only to be delayed for about 5 hours. But at 7 am the next day, the group was reunited and we headed off to Mt. Sinai on an 8 hour bus ride.
Until next time,
