The Ho Chi Minh Trail
Lily Moua

I've only heard stories from my father about the old misery days on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. It was such a bloody, wet, and miserable route surrounded by evil communes, screaming souls, bombs and craters, booby traps, and hungry villagers hiding in the jungle. Almost 30 years after my father left the Secret War, I finally see the reality of this bloodthirsty trail, and it is no longer the same. It is quite peaceful, and I don't see any trace of blood or even jungles. It's just a hard-grounded, clear, and empty trail that runs in the DMZ during the daytime. If my father was here at night, I'm sure he'd have many ghost stories to tell me about the dead ones in the silent night. This empty trail will soon be unpeaceful again because the new highway will soon bring loud noise and lousy drivers. Again, the trail will not be at peace.
