Paul Gauguin, the famous French Impressionist, spent many years in Martinique,
capturing the colors, landscapes and culture with vibrant brushstrokes of oil paint.
Martinique cannot afford to own any original Gauguin works, but reproductions
on large tarps, such as this one, are displayed
in public parks for the people of Martinique to
appreciate his work in nature.
