Vietnam Wall, Washington D.C.

This picture was taken at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. I lived in our nation's capital for nine months, and had the opportunity to visit the Vietnam Wall several times.

The Wall is a very somber memorial to the American military personnel that died in Vietnam, and the intense emotional power surrounding it often made it hard for me to spend much time there.

Every day one could find thousands of people visiting the site--kids on fieldtrips, men and women making pencil etchings of names, and so on. Most people however, including the man and woman in this picture, just seemed to stop as they contemplated and reflected on the sacrifices remembered in this memorial.
