Best Of Show "Dream (Traume)" Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin, Germany Practically all of Berling is under construction. They are still rebuilding the once divided city into a new beacon of democracy and capitalism. I took this picture at Checkpoint Charlie, the famous crossover point between Communist East and Capitalist West Berlin. The two sections had been divided by the Berlin Wall for decades and the wall throughout its history had claimed many lives of attempted escapees. The crosses in the photo are each memorials of those who died attempting to find Freedom in West Berlin. Now, overshadowing and even dominating them are the advertisements that herald the success of capitalism and the destruction of sanctity. |
