"Glossy Consumption "
A Mall in Hong Kong
Upon our arrival in Hong Kong, we were told that "this place is more 1st world than America!" At first glance, though I agreed that it was clearly more industrialized than India and Egypt where we had spent the past two months, I was not yet quite convinced. That was before I saw the malls. Gigantic, polished, busy, glossy malls. Everywhere. With their spotless shiny surfaces, bright lights, and blinding reflections, the malls entranced you and seduced you to consumption.
