Finding Books, Sound Recordings, Videos, Scores, & Journal Titles
Finding Journal or Periodical Articles
Finding Reference Materials
The Web

Using SAGE to find scores, sound recordings, books, music videos, and music journal titles:

1.Begin with the text version of Sage

2.Try keyword searching first (W) due to the nature of music materials (multiple formats, generic titles, various languages,
prolific composers, etc.)

3.Pick out the distinctive parts of the title, such as op. 64 or K. 330, and combine that with the composer's last name:
Example: Beethoven's 9th Symphony in D minor, op. 125

Actual search: WORD : Beethoven 125

4.You can limit by material type (compact discs, phonorecords, scores, videos, books, etc.) by using the following
commands:

L> Limit this search
M> Material type

5.Examine your results to determine which item you want, write down the entire call number, and note the format of the
item. If the item is a sound recording or music video, ask for it at the circulation desk.
