Academic Study Environment

Rolvaag Library Policy on Noise, Food and Drink

We encourage everyone to enjoy the use of the library while at the same time maintaining an appropriate academic study environment. Our policy on noise, food, and drink is designed to maintain a balance between productive interaction and quiet study.

Noise. While we encourage people to use the library for quiet group discussion, let’s respect those around us who are trying to study. In an attempt to balance the need for quiet discussion and silence, we will soon be designating certain floors as "super quiet zones." Watch for signs and future announcements.

In addition, please turn off cell phones or set to vibrate while in the libraries. If you need to make a phone call please go to the lobby outside of the library.

Food and Drink. Light snacks consumed responsibly are permitted in the library. This does not include meals, salads, pizza, etc. Beverages are permitted in sturdy no-spill cups. Please do not use paper cups with plastic lids. We ask that you leave your study area clean and report any spills to the circulation desk staff. Let’s respect our hard-working custodial staff and not add to their workload.

EXCEPTIONS: Food is not allowed in the library classrooms (rooms 355, 477, and 577).

Thank you for helping to make Rolvaag a clean, comfortable, and inviting setting for all to enjoy!
