Web Sites for Biology
The Basics of MRI
A hypertext publication that helps students understand magnetic-resonance imaging. Produced by Joseph P. Hornak, a professor of chemistry and imaging science at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Biodiversity: Measuring the Variety of Nature
This site in effect summarizes the results of years of work by investigators at the Biogeography & Conservation Lab in developing and applying "appropriate, explicit and accountable methods to tackle problems in biogeography and biodiversity assessment to meet conservation needs at any spatial scale." Measures the variety of nature and selects priority areas for conservation.
Center for Human Genome Studies
The specific goals of the CHGS are the assembly of maps of chromosomes 5 and 16, and the isolation of genes of interest on these chromosomes. Hence, the Web site is highly focused and includes a searchable chromosome 16 database, and access to research articles originally published in the journal Nature.
National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC)
This site has information about coastal water temperature, wind velocity, and salinity. There are some interesting animated models of sea surface temperature and water level. It also includes links from Top 10 Questions about the Ocean.
