Paul Niemisto has been on the Music Faculty at St. Olaf since 1978, conducting the Norseman Band, teaching trombone, euphonium, tuba, and courses in music education. Prior to 1978, he taught in Nova Scotia, Canada, as a band and orchestra conductor, and member of the CBC Halifax Orchestra. Mr. Niemisto is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and is currently doing PhD studies at the University of Minnesota. Received additional conducting training at the Mozarteum Somerakatemie in Salzburg, and at the American Symphony Orchestra League Institute.

As a researcher in Nordic music, especially Finnish, Mr. Niemisto travels to Finland regularly to teach and perform. He is also the founder and director of Ameriikan Poijat "Boys of America" Finnish American Brass Ensemble.

In addition to being the director of the Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, Paul Niemisto is the director of the Norseman Band, St. Olaf Trombone Choir, and The St. Olaf Summer Music Camp.
