Late Night Musings

by Todd Reemtsma, NBS Section Chairperson

The Soapbox
I hope that the Northern Boundary Section winter (or lack thereof) is treating everyone well.  It has certainly been one of the stranger winters that I can remember. I, personally, am a big fan of winter and have missed the snow and the cold, but I’m sure many of you do not share myTodd sentiment.
But at last here we are in March and soon many of us will be leaving any signs of winter in the Midwest and on our way to Long Beach, California for the 52nd edition of the USITT Annual Conference March 28th – 31st, 2012.  If you will be attending the conference, I hope you will plan on joining other members of the Northern Boundary Section on Thursday, March 29th, 2012 from 8:00AM – 9:15AM in room 203C of Long Beach Convention Center (please confirm on posted schedules at the conference)  for our section meeting.  If you have agenda items that you would like to see covered, please drop me or one of the NBS officers a line prior to that date.
And with mention of the upcoming section meeting, please allow me to step on to my soapbox.  Actually, let me step off the soapbox and allow you to step up.  Ostensibly, the majority of the folks that are reading this newsletter are members of the Northern Boundary Section.  Now that you have the soapbox, tell us what being a member of the Northern Boundary Section means to you.  Give us some ideas of what we can do to make the Northern Boundary Section better.  More NBS events?  Better communication?  You certainly do not have to be a member of the NBS board to take the bull by the horns and create opportunities for yourself and for others.
[And now as I push my way back on to the soapbox] I encourage you take a look around to see what other USITT Sections are doing and what other organizations are doing to be an invaluable service to their members.  I certainly take a lot of pride in our NBS members, organization, and events and hope that we will always strive to be an example to other USITT Sections and organizations, but it takes an ongoing effort to rise to that challenge.
I am looking forward to seeing folks in Long Beach and hope we can have some great discussions of what we can do to keep the NBS fun, relevant, and useful.
After all…
