2003 Self-Study Information
In July 2001, St. Olaf College submitted a
proposal for a Special Emphases Self-Study in conjunction with the comprehensive evaluation visit by the Higher Learning Commission scheduled for April 2003. A special emphases self-study is a focused, forward-looking alternative to the all-inclusive, retrospective approach usually undertaken in re-accreditation studies. It permits accredited, well-established institutions to concentrate their analysis on "a select group of critical issues in order to contribute to institutional improvement and educational excellence." [1997 NCA Handbook of Accreditation, 2nd ed.]
The NCA Higher Learning Commission approved the College's proposal for a self-study that focuses on several institutional issues: Diversity, Cross-Cultural Learning, Student Learning, Program Mix and Quality, and Faculty and Staff Roles and Rewards. Individual chapters may be accessed by clicking on the link, below. The entire self-study may be read by clicking on the "2003 Self-Study" link.
