Dear faculty, staff, students, and emeriti colleagues:

Over the next two years, the St. Olaf College community will be engaged the
process of re-accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North
Central Association. The site visit from NCA evaluators is scheduled for
April of 2003. On behalf of the College, I wrote a proposal to NCA
requesting a customized approach to re-accreditation (known as a special
emphasis self study). The text of that proposal is available on the web
page of the Dean of the College:

The Commission notified President Thomforde that our request has been
granted, so the process can now begin. Arnie Ostebee, in his new role as
Assistant Provost, will be responsible for coordinating the NCA self study
and site visit.
