Cordell Hunkins' (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) one-yard touchdown run with 5:15 to play gave St. Olaf a three point lead over Bethel. The Royals, however, had a 67-yard scoring drive on the ensuing possession to down St. Olaf 36-32 in Arden Hills Saturday afternoon.

Hunkins had three touchdowns in the loss. His second gave St. Olaf (3-3, 2-3) an 18-8 lead over Bethel (2-4, 2-2) midway through the second quarter. The Oles led 25-15 at the half.

Brian Senske (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) threw for 278 yards and a touchdown, while completing 23-of-33. Senske completed 13 passes sophomore Frank Bass (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Roosevelt).

Bass finished with 197 yards, 14 catches and a touchdown. His 70-yard touchdown came on an end-around reverse pass via Nate Lund (Jr., Mankato, Minn./Loyola). Lund is 3-for-3 this year for 195 yards and three touchdowns.

Mike Johnson led the Bethel running attack. The senior preseason All-American carried 38 times for 165 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson's second was the deciding score with 20 seconds to play.

St. Olaf gained 81 on the ground and 348 through the air, and held a 429-411 edge in total offense. Bethel rushed for 280 yards in the win.

St. Olaf will host Hamline (1-5, 0-4) next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Manitou Field in the Ade Christensen Athletic Complex. The Pipers earned their first win of the season Saturday, defeating Macalester 29-13 in a non-conference game. Next Saturday's St. Olaf-Hamline contest can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
