Oles sail past Hamline 48-12

The St. Olaf football team snapped a three-game skid, thumping Hamline 48-12 at Manitou Field Saturday afternoon.

The Oles (4-3, 3-3) scored 41 unanswered points after Hamline (1-6, 0-5) cut the advantage to 7-6 midway through the first quarter. St. Olaf led 34-6 at the half.

Frank Bass (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Roosevelt) scored three touchdowns to pace the Oles. Bass, who had a school-record 14 receptions last week, scored from 40 and 16 yards through the air and also on a 65-yard punt return. Bass finished with six catches and 201 all-purpose yards.

Quarterback Brian Senske (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) was 17-of-22 for 257 yards and three touchdowns. Senske also had a rushing touchdown in the win.

The St. Olaf defense had four takeaways and held the Pipers to 266 yards of total offense. Eighty-four of those yards came on a pass play early in the fourth quarter. The Oles had 409 yards offensively and no turnovers.

Cordell Hunkins (Sr. Apple Valley, Minn.) added two short TD runs and Kyle Fritze (Jr., Richfield, Minn.) caught a 21-yard score for St. Olaf.

Chad Strehlo scored on a 56-yard punt return and Dan Ryks caught seven passes for 201 yards for Hamline.

The Oles will play Macalester in St. Paul next Saturday. Hamline defeated the Scots last week 29-13.
