Oct. 12th, 2002 - Despite their home course being in swamp like conditions the St. Olaf Men's Cross Country team raced to an eight-place finish mixed amongst eight teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation. Due to a lack luster performance as a whole the teams finished 25 points behind cross-town rival Carleton College. Leading the way for the Oles was Kelly Fulton (So, Billings, MT) in 22nd place with a time of 26.56. He was followed somewhat closely behind by Rob Hillard (Sr, Colombia, MO - Hickman), Malcolm Richards (So, Minneapolis, MN - South) and Peder Arneson (Jr, Montevideo, MN) who packed up and finished in 38th, 41st and 45th respectively. Christopher Coffey (Sr, Dubuque, IA - Senior) came in rather strong as the Oles fifth man in 58th place in addition a fair amount of promise was seen by Jason Havey (FY, Colombia, MO - Hickman) as he was the Oles eighth runner and top first year. The Oles are looking forward to racing, despite holding a few runners out, on Saturday Oct. 19th at the Jim Drews Invitational hosted by UW-LaCrosse, where they will once again square off against another very large and impressive field from across the nation and all three NCAA divisions. The men's race is scheduled for 10:30 at the Maple Grove Country Club in West Salem, WI.
