Women's basketball downs St. Kate's

The St. Olaf Women's Basketball team upset the College of St.Catherine at home on Monday, February 3, 65-54.

The Oles went on a 16-to-2 run in the final minutes to get the win. With three minutes and 50 seconds remaining in the game, two quick scores by Wildcat Kate Stodolka gave St. Kate?s a three point lead, 52-49.

The Oles led by as much as 13 points in the first half and were up 32-23 at the break. St. Kate?s quickly cut the lead, and the Oles were ahead by only two points for much of the second half.

The Oles had a balanced scoring attack as Mayme Cupkie (Sr, Owatonna, Minn.) led the way with 14 points, Christine Schwichtenberg (FY, Hopkins, Minn.) had 12, Molly Simon (So, Hudson, Wis.) added 11, and Sara Erickson (Sr, Cambridge, Minn.) scored ten points. Simon also had four steels, and Jill Johnson (Jr, Butterfield, Minn.) had eight rebounds for the Oles, while Cupkie grabbed seven boards.

St. Olaf shot 40.0 percent in the contest in comparison to St. Kate?s 37.7 percent. The Oles only committed ten turnovers and out-rebounded St. Kate?s 46-40.

The Oles next play the College of Saint Benedict at home on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 PM.
