Men's hoops tips Mac in final seconds

Mike Ludwig's (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) 15-foot jumper with 3.5 seconds left enabled St. Olaf to a 70-69 win over Macalester College in St. Paul Saturday afternoon.

The win moved St. Olaf into a fifth-place tie with Saint John's. An Ole win on Wednesday against league-leading St. Thomas, or a loss by Augsburg or Hamline would clinch a playoff spot.

The Oles have won three in a row and five of their last seven.

Ludwig finished with a season-high 29 points to lead the Oles. Tim Nelson (Sr., Braham, Minn.) added 14 and Kevin Jaunich (Sr., Delano, Minn.) 10.

The Scots took their first lead with just under ten minutes to play, after the Oles led by as many as 14 in the first half. St. Olaf had a 12-point advantage at the half.

Ben Van Thorre had 20 of his team-high 24 points in the second half for Macalester.

St. Olaf hosts St. Thomas on Wednesday night at 7:30. The game is free of admission and can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
