Women's hockey shuts out Hamline

On Friday, January 31, the Oles traveled to St. Paul to face the Hamline Pipers in a conference match up. The Oles had a great offensive game. In the first period alone, the Oles put 17 shots on goal. At 10:57 in the first period, the Oles scored. Jennifer Welch (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) scored with the assist from Melissa Mueller (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.).

The second period was also a successful period for the Oles. They had a total of 11 shots on goal and kept the Pipers to only 5 shots on goal. Early in the second period, at 3:49, the Oles brought their lead to 2-0. Kate Barnett (So., Burnsville, Minn.) scored for the Oles with the assist from Erin Baxter (So., Rosemount, Minn.).

The Oles kept the offensive intensity up into the third period with a total of 14 shots on goal. However, the Piper defense was successful in keeping the Oles from scoring again. The third period was a rough one with a total of 5 penalties.

The Oles shut out the Pipers with a final score of 2-0. The Oles finished the game with a total of 43 shots on goal. Ole goaltender, Amanda Chumbley (Sr., Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had a total of 14 saves.

The Oles will face the Pipers again on Saturday, February 1 at 7pm at the Northfield Ice Arena.
