Ole women sweep Pipers 8-0

On Saturday, February 1, the Oles played game two of the weekend series against the Hamline University Pipers. The first period was almost uneventful until the Oles scored at 15:33. Erin Baxter (So., Rosemount, Minn.) scored with the assists from Britny Schultheis (So., Shoreview, Minn.) and Sarah Ray (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.). The Oles had a total of 16 shots on goal in the first period and played great defensive keeping the Pipers to only 3 shots on Ole goaltender, Andrea Smith (So., Burnsville, Minn.).

The Oles picked up the intensity in the second period scoring their second goal at 6:47. Lindsay Weier (Fr., Menomonie, Wis.) scored for with the assist from Kayla Wente (So., Waterloo, Iowa). At 19:22 of the second, on the power play, Ray scored the third goal for the Oles with the assists from Schultheis and Kate Barnett (So., Burnsville, Minn.). Weier scored her second goal of the game at 19:22 in the second period. The assist was awarded to Ray. The Oles had a total of 22 shots on goal for the period. Smith faced 2 shots on goal and then switched with Kerry Rollwagen (So., Mendota Heights, Minn.) at 10:32 and Rollwagen stopped 3 shots.

The third period was an even more offensively successful one for the Oles. At 3:27, Jennifer Welch (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) scored with the assists from Schultheis and Lorna Wilson (So., Wasilla, Alaska) bringing the Oles' lead to 5-0. At 12:01, Barnett scored the Oles' sixth goal with the assist from Weier. Baxter scored goal seven at 16:01 with the assists from Welch and Melissa Mueller (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.). In the last minute of the game, the Oles were given another power play opportunity and Anne Whipple (Sr., Neenah, Wis.) scored her first goal of the season with the assist from Ray. In the third period, the Oles put a total of 18 shots on goal and Rollwagen made a total of 5 saves.

The Oles had a tremendous offensive game with a total of 56 shots on goal. Goaltenders Smith and Rollwagen shut out the Pipers stopping all 13 shots on goal. The final score was 8-0, St. Olaf.

The Oles will next face the Royals of Bethel College on Wednesday, February 5 at 7pm at Columbia Ice Arena in Fridley.
