Oles hold Bethel women scoreless

On Wednesday, February 5, the Oles matched up against the Bethel College Royals. The first period of the game was played pretty evenly by both teams. The Oles had 8 shots on goal and Ole goaltender, Kerry Rollwagen (So., Mendota Heights, Minn.) faced 6 shots on goal. At 19:42 of the first period, the Oles scored the first goal of the game. Sarah Ray (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) scored with the assist from Kate Barnett (So., Burnsville, Minn.).

The second period was full of penalties against both teams. The Oles were very successful in their penalty kill, however they were unable to score on their power play opportunities. At 9:04, the Oles did score bringing their lead to 2-0. Jennifer Welch (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) scored with the assist from Melissa Mueller (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.). The Oles put a total of 14 shots on goal in the second period and kept the Royals to 5 shots on goal.

The third period proved to be a huge offensive effort for the Oles. They scored their third goal of the game at 2:28. Barnett scored with the assist from Welch and Erin Baxter (So., Rosemount, Minn.). Barnett scored again at 5:36 on the power play with the assists from Lindsay Weier (Fr., Menomonie, Wis.) and Ray. Soon after, at 8:46, the Oles brought their lead to 5-0 with a goal by Weier. The assist was awarded to Britny Schultheis (So., Shoreview, Minn.). The Oles had a total of 18 shots on goal in the third period and kept the Royals to only 2 shots on goal.

The Oles shut out the Pipers with a final score of 5-0. Rollwagen had her first career shut out with a total of 12 saves for the game. The Oles finished the game with a total of 40 shots on goal. Barnett had an excellent game with two goals and one assist.

The Oles will next face the Royals again on Saturday, February 8 at 7pm at the Northfield Ice Arena.
