The St. Olaf men's tennis team played a tough match against Saint John's on Friday night at McNeely Spectrum. The Oles lost narrowly to the Johnnies 5-4. With the loss, the Oles fall to 1-1 overall.

The highlight of the match came at center court as Ole players Ted and Tom Nagel (Jr., Oglesby, Ill.) defeated Solum and Loe, at the #1 spot. The victory gave St. Olaf a 2-1 lead going into singles competition.

Matt Sobieski (Jr., Madtomedi, Minn.) pulled out a win in a super-tiebreaker over Ryan Orwoll, which extended the lead to 3-1. Unfortunately, the Johnnies went on to win the next three matches, which made the score 4-3 and left the match to be decided at the No. 1 position. Saint John's sealed the victory, as Mike Solum won in a slim victory over Ole Tom Nagel. Jonnies defaulted at No. 2, to make the final score 5-4 Saint Johns.

Other players competing in the match were Dan Cohen, (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.), Mike Matsuura, (FY, St. Cloud, Minn.), Matt Clark, (FY, Northfield, Minn.), Mike Donohue (Sr., Spirit Lake, Iowa), and Tom Wampler (Soph., Green Bay, Wis.).

St. Olaf returns to action on, Friday, Feb. 21, against Nebraska-Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m. at the Owatonna Tennis Center.
