The St. Olaf Women's Track and Field team hosted the Border Battle this past weekend. Competing for the bragging rights between Minnesota and Wisconsin, St. Olaf, St. Thomas, UW Eau Claire, and UW Stout brought out their best. St. Thomas won the meet for the women, with St. Olaf close behind in 3rd place. The Oles were lead by senior Megan Daymont (Northfield, Minn.) who automatically qualified for nationals in the 800-meter race. With Daymont's time from Saturday, she is currently the number one runner in the United States. Teammate Becky Peterson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) is looking to be with Daymont at nationals, as she continues to drop her 55-meter hurdle time. Peterson placed fourth in the 55-hurdles and 6th in the 200-meter dash. Daymont also won the 1500-meter race, with teammate Larissa Nordstrom (FY, Des Moines, Iowa) finishing second. In the 3,000 meter race, Lindsey Boetcher (FY, Eau Claire, Wisc.) took second while Meredith Fahrner (So., Urbana, Ill.) raced for second place in the 5,000 meter run. Watch for these Oles, as well as their teammates, to continue to improve as they prepare for the conference track meet. In the field events, Jennifer Levenhagen (Jr., Appleton, Wisc.) and Emily Uzzell (Sr., Norfolk, Neb.) teamed together to finish in 5th and 6th , respectively in the shot put. Uzzell also finished 4th in the weight throw, where she continues to break the school record. Marla Nelson (FY, Mendota Heights, Minn.) finished 3rd in the pole vault, reminding others that St. Olaf does have a strong pole vault squad in the works. Leah Dvorak continues to lead the jumps, as she finished in 4th place in high jump after returning from an injury. The Oles will travel to the University of Minnesota Open this next weekend (Saturday, beginning at 11 am in the U of M Fieldhouse), but will return home the following weekend for the Ole Invite.
