Oles down Hamline, earn fifth seed in MIAC Tourney

The St. Olaf men's basketball team downed Hamline University 79-60 Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena in St. Paul. The win ensured St. Olaf the fifth seed in the MIAC Tournament, which begins Tuesday.

Mike Ludwig (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) had 29 points to lead the Oles on 11-of-17 shooting. Ludwig surpassed 1,600 career points in the game.

Justin Bonestroo (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.) had a double-double, with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Tim Nelson (Sr., Braham, Minn.) added 10 points in the win.

The win was the fifth straight for the Oles and the seventh in the last nine games.

St. Olaf outrebounded the Pipers 45-32 and shot 17-of-20 from the free throw line, while Hamline was just five-for-six. The Oles held an eight-point advantage at halftime.

Tyler Petrich had 13 and Josh Hanson 11 for Hamline.

St. Olaf opens MIAC Tournament play at fourth-seeded Bethel on Tuesday. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. and can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
