Seniors go out with 67-58 win over Hamline

The St. Olaf Women?s Basketball team won their final game of the season against Hamline on Saturday, February 22 at the Skoglund Arena. After trailing by two in the half, St. Olaf outscored the Pipers by 11 in the second half to win 67-58.

Senior Sara Erickson (Cambridge, Minn.) finished with 16 points, shooting just under 50 percent in the contest from the field. Jill Johnson (Jr, Butterfield, Minn.) and Kristy Larson (So, St. Ansgar, Iowa) each added12 points. Kelly Sweeney (Jr, Oakdale, Minn.) dished out six assists in the contest and was the lead rebounder with nine. Larson also had seven boards, two blocks, and four steals. The Oles shot poorly in the first half, shooting 28.6 percent from the field and were out-rebounded by ten. The Pipers scored eleven unanswered points in the first two and a half minutes. The Oles went on a 10-2 run in the closing minutes of the first half to get within two points of the Pipers, who led 28-26.

In the second half, St. Olaf?s shooting improved to 46.9 percent and they out-rebounded the Pipers 30-17. They secured a nine point lead with just under five minutes remaining in the contest.

St. Olaf finished the season with a 8-16 record and did not qualify for the post-season MIAC tournament. The team is graduating three seniors, all who started for the Oles: Mayme Cupkie, Sara Erickson, and Liz Mundahl.
