St. Olaf College women's track and field coach Chris Daymont has been awarded a Women of Distinction Award sponsored by the Girl Scout Council of Cannon Valley. Daymont won the "Women Preparing Women" award, which recognizes women who have made a significant contribution to preparing girls and women for the future. The honor was presented Feb. 22 in Red Wing, Minn., at the council's ninth annual Women of Distinction award ceremony. Daymont, who was a Girl Scout in her youth, has coached the St. Olaf women's cross country and track-and-field teams for 28 years. She has mentored more than 1,000 female student-athletes, including both of her daughters, and built a program from three runners to a fourth-place team finish at the NCAA Dvision III cross country nationals. She also has coached numerous national champions and All-Americans. "I tell every woman on my teams that she should never believe she can't do something, because she can do anything," Daymont said. "I always say, 'You go, girl! And then, go faster and stronger!' "
