This weekend, St. Olaf College hosted the 2003 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Conference Championships. With members of all twelve MIAC schools represented, competition proved excellent on the track and in the field.

St. Olaf was lead by senior Megan Daymont (Northfield, MN) who won the 600, 1,000, and 1,500 meter races. Daymont broke the meet record in the 600 and 1,000 meter races. Daymont efforts earned her All-Conference in each event and the Outstanding Track Athlete award for her amazing performance.

The Oles finished in a strong 5th place overall. St. Thomas won and Gustavus finished second.

Many St. Olaf athletes stepped up to their competition. Larissa Nordstrom (FY, Des Moines, Iowa) led the Oles in the long distance events where she finished 3rd in the 1,000 meter race. Teammate Becky Peterson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) set the pace in the sprints where she finished third in the pentathlon, fifth in the 55 meter hurdles, was a member of the third place 4x400 relay team and the 4x200. Daymont joined Peterson on the 4x400 relay as did Becca Trombley (FY, Eau Claire, Wis.), and Elizabeth Ghandour (FY, Madelia, Minn.). The 4x200 relay was composed of Peterson, Ghandour, Melissa Botzet (So., Fairmont, Minn.) and Melissa Mueller (FY, Lakeville, Minn.).

Also placing high for the Oles was Lindsey Boetcher (FY, Eau Claire, Wis.) who finished sixth in the 3,000 and 9th in the 5,000. Kari Koos (FY, Leavenworth, Wash.) came back from a stress fracture and placed fifth in the 800 meter race. The field events were lead by Ghandour who finished sixth in the pole vault and Sonja Moe (So, Northfield, Minn.) who finished sixth in the triple jump. Though many Oles did not place high in the field events, almost every Ole improve their performance, bettered their season personal record, and moved higher in their rankings. The Oles will take a few weeks off from competition, as they transition into the outdoor season. Watch for the enthusiasm from the indoor season to carry into the outdoor season. The Oles will begin their outdoor season traveling to Luther College in Decorah, Iowa for the Norse Relays on Saturday, April 5th.
