Men's Tennis nipped by Gustavus

Matthew Sobieski
March 17, 2003

The final score was 8-1 for the Gusties. According to Coach Nesbit, the highlight of the match was the Nagel's (Ted and Tom) doubles win over a team that had beaten them in the fall. That was the only victory of the night, but the Oles competed well at a lot of the positions. The team had fun playing against such good competiton. The number #1 and #2 players for Gustavus have each finished second in the NCAA Division III nationals (in different years). Gustavus is also the top ranked team in the country after recently winning the NCAA Division III indoor nationals. The players that competed for the Oles were Tom Nagel(Jr., Oglesby, IL.), Ted Nagle (Jr, Oglesby, IL), Ross Bidlingmaier (So, Madison, WI), Mike Donahue (SR, Spirit Lake, MN), Mike Matsuura (FY, St Cloud, MN), Tom Wampler (SO, Green BAy, WI), and Matt Clark (FY, Northfield, MN). The Oles are coached by Scott Nesbit and Dave Olson. The Oles take a spring break tennis trip every other year. This is their off year. Their next competition is Saturday, April 5th at home versus Hamline.
