Daymont named Central Region Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year

Megan Daymont (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) was named 2003 Women's Central Region Track and Field Athlete of the Year at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, which were held March 14-15 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Daymont's finished second in the 800 Meters at the NCAA Championships with a time of 2:11.81, her personal best time in the 800 meter indoor event. Daymont also posted a time of 4:34.31 for the 1500 Meters, which placed her fifth among the nation's best, but only ran in the 800 meter event at nationals.

The preceeding week, Daymont was named MIAC Women's Most Outstanding Track Athlete for her performance at the 2003 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 7-8. Daymont was a triple conference champion with wins in the 600, 1000, 1500 meter runs. Her performances in the 600 and 1000 were also MIAC Championship meet records and her victories in the 1000 and 1500 meter runs were her fourth consecutive wins in those two events.

"Megan is the strongest and most versatile athlete I have ever coached, " says Coach Chris Daymont. "She is the conference champion at 6K in cross country, as well as conference champion in the 600 meter run, which demonstrates a tremendous range. To top it off, she continues to qualify for nationals in multiple track events each year." Coach Daymont says, "She has always put the team performance first and it has been an absolute thrill to coach her."
