Brad Kmoch, director of experiential learning, received three grants from the Minnesota Campus Compact to support civic engagement activities and research at St. Olaf. The first grant helped support a civic engagement teach-In on Feb. 17, as part of National Civic Engagement Week. The second grant creates opportunities for individual students and student groups to create dialogue around civic engagement issues and empower students to become more involved.

The final grant supports the assessment of service-learning courses at the college. A social work class taught by Naurine Lennox will carry out the assessment, which will survey faculty members on whether they have used service learning in a course and, if so, what benefits they see. The class also will survey the community organizations being served by St. Olaf service-learning courses to determine the impact and benefits on the organization and clients.
