Women's Hockey Ties St. Mary's in Final Regular Season Game

On Sunday, February 16, the Oles hosted the Cardinals of St. Mary's University. This game proved to be very exciting as both teams fought back and forth for the lead. The Oles seemed to dominate the majority of the first period putting a total of 10 shots on goal compared to St. Mary's 3. The Cardinals, however, scored first, at 16:27 in the first period. The Oles answered back right away at 18:47, with a goal from Britny Schultheis (So, Shoreview, Minn.). The assist was awarded to Erin Baxter (So, Rosemount, Minn.).The Oles kept up the intensity to finish the first period with another goal. At 19:50, Lindsay Weier (Fr, Menomonie, Wis.) scored unassisted to take the lead.

The Oles continued to dominate in the second period out shooting St. Mary's 15 to 5. However, no goals were scored by either team. The third period was an even battle. The Oles lost their lead at 9:28 in the third with a St. Mary's power-play goal. This tying goal sent the game into overtime. After 5 minutes, the score was still 2-2, and the game went down in the books as a tie.

The Oles had a total of 36 shots on goal. Ole goaltender, Andrea Smith (So, Burnsville, Minn.) had a total of 19 saves for the game. Great efforts were displayed by all Oles. The Oles will wait to see if they will continue their season into playoffs.
