Memorial services have been scheduled for St. Olaf junior Nicolas Harter, 21, of Hopkins, Minn., who went missing during a five-person diving expedition on the Mississippi River in St. Paul on Sunday, Nov. 21. The family hosted a service at their home church, Normandale Lutheran in Edina, on Friday, Dec. 3. In addition, a campus memorial service has been scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in Boe Memorial Chapel.

Divers from five counties searched the Mississippi River over Thanksgiving weekend for Harter, who was taking part in an "Advanced Open Water" diving class offered by an independent company in Northfield. According to Dean of Students Greg Kneser, the family expressed its appreciation for the support and prayers of everyone at St. Olaf, in particular their son's close friends. Prayers were offered during the regular chapel service on campus last week for the family and friends of Harter, an English and ancient studies major who wrote poetry and was an avid diver.
