After 41 years of serving St. Olaf College, Assistant Vice President for Advancement Don Sahling will retire this month. The college has declared Monday, Dec. 13, "Salute to Don Sahling Day." Join St. Olaf faculty and staff as we raise our coffee cups to Don on Monday at 3 p.m. in the Trollhaugen room of Buntrock Commons.

Sahling began his lifelong career with St. Olaf in 1963 as an admissions counselor. During his tenure he has welcomed kings, queens, presidents and the secret service to campus while hosting countless public events.

Asked about his greatest achievement at St. Olaf, Sahling notes the green Department of Transportation signs along I-35 at the Northfield exit. Sahling recalls endless meetings with the state legislature to get the signs approved and installed.

In his role in advancement, Sahling managed the Christmas Festival for years by ticketing and hosting thousands of guests on campus. Currently assistant vice president for advancement and senior principal gifts officer, Sahling has helped bring millions of dollars to St. Olaf programs and to the endowment.

Sahling's retirement will find him continuing to be active in the Northfield Community and at St. John's Lutheran Church. He will also devote more time to his favorite hobby, golf.
