No St. Olaf students are studying in London on official college programs

St. Olaf has no students or adult Study Travelers in London this summer on college-sponsored programs, according to officials who plan those programs at the college.

One student is studying in London on her own, but representatives from the American Institute for Foreign Study contacted St. Olaf on Thursday to say the student is fine.

In the wake of news about terrorist attacks on London, the International and Off-Campus Studies office reported that students are not scheduled to study in the city until the January Interim, when the "Theatre in London" program and an economics program will be there, says Kathryn Tuma, associate director of the office.

The Center for Lifelong Learning, which offers professor-led Study Travel programs for adult learners, recently returned from three trips to Norway. No immediate trips currently are planned to London, says CLL Executive Director Karen Hansen. Next spring the program "The British Industrial Revolution: Roots for Globalization," led by Professor Emeritus of Economics Bill Carlson and Char Carlson, a retired corporate vice president of financial underwriting, will conclude in London.

St. Olaf annually sends more students to study abroad than any baccalaureate institution in the nation.
