Major matching gift announced for science campaign
January 8, 2008
As 2007 drew to a close, St. Olaf College received word of a $3 million anonymous challenge gift to its science and mathematics campaign. This is a matching gift; the donors will match any new gift on a 1:1 basis, up to $3 million. When the college earns $3 million in new gifts, the donors will add a $500,000 bonus.
And there is even more good news, according to Michael Stitsworth, vice president of advancement and college relations. "As of Jan. 7, we have secured $1.8 million in new gifts from donors who wish to take advantage of the matching challenge," says Stitsworth. "This is obviously a series of gifts for which we are very thankful, and it means we now only need about $1.2 million in new gifts to complete the campaign."
In the meantime, planning is already underway to dedicate the $63 million Science Complex during Homecoming and Family weekend in the fall of 2008.
