'Not just any dog'

A story in the Star Tribune describes how St. Olaf Associate Professor of Music Kathryn Ananda-Owens and her dog, Viva, are helping lead a revival of Icelandic sheepdogs in the United States. Ananda-Owens says she chose the 2,000-year-old breed whose numbers once dwindled to just 35 because she "wanted a good jogging buddy and someone to curl up with at the end of the day."
