Alumna elected president of Minnesota RollerGirls

The Minnesota RollerGirls have elected Lindsy Halleckson '02 (aka Rebel Stella) president of the organization's board of directors for 2008. Previous to her appointment as president, Halleckson served one year as secretary for the organization.

"For me, St. Olaf was a struggle between living comfortably with familiar things, people and surroundings and the desire to push myself out of my comfort zone," says Halleckson. "I don't think anyone would expect a nice Ole to come off 'The Hill' looking for a sport that requires smashing into other people, but that is exactly what I ended up doing."

After graduating she says she was craving physical activity when a friend told her about roller derby. She's now been skating in the league for four years.

"There is so much pressure in our society to equate success with money and career. I see that a little bit differently," explains Halleckson. "For me, success comes when you put your entire being into reaching a certain goal. Sometimes it can come in a completely different form than you would have ever expected. Mine is attached to a pair of roller skates."
