Jazz pianist Toby Koenigsberg to perform

Jazz pianist Toby Koenigsberg will present a recital in Christansen Hall of Music, Urness Recital Hall on Friday, April 4, at 8:15 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Koenigsberg has performed around the world as a solo artist and with the Toby Koenigsberg Trio. Koenigsberg has recorded two CDs, Push and Sense, and is working on the release of his third CD, a mix of straight-ahead jazz piano trio and solo jazz piano performances.

The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts has honored Koenigsberg, who also received the Eastman School of Music's Schirmer Award, which is given to the most outstanding jazz performer in a graduating class.

Koenigsberg has also received accolades for his composition and jazz scholarship. His piece titled "Song for Aki" was named Best Original Song in Down Beat Magazine's 2003 Student Music Awards. Koenigsberg is published by the Jazz Education Journal and frequently delivers lectures.

Koenigsberg completed his Master of Music degree in jazz and contemporary media from the Eastman School of Music after pursuing graduate study in classical piano at the Peabody Conservatory. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Oregon, where he is now assistant professor of jazz piano and associate director of jazz studies.
