Achberger chosen for selective seminar

St. Olaf Professor of German Karen Achberger is one of 12 participants who have been accepted into a six-week seminar sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service called "Technologies of Memory: Collective Traumatic Remembrance in Modern Germany" beginning June 16 at Cornell University.

During the seminar we will examine the concept of memory as preserved and manipulated -- even fabricated -- via many specific media technologies: film, photography, radio, television and print media," says Achberger. "This connects nicely with my sabbatical project -- a study of the representations of the Nazi past in postwar German cinema -- as well as with the advanced seminar on postwar German cinema that I'll be offering next spring for German majors."
